Ponnani is an ancient port city in Malappuram district of Kerala. The city is located on the coast of the Arabian Sea. Ponnani is the only port in Malappuram district. Historians believe that Ponnani is the port city of Tyndis, mentioned in the Greek book 'Periplus of the Erythraean Sea' written in the 1st century AD.
